After the Civil War, the 13th Amendment made Slavery illegal, but many people did not want to interact with black people in our country. They got around treating them equally by creating laws that segregated, or separated black and white people. What are some ways you have heard that people were segregated?
In many parts of the United States public schools were segregated by race, or the color of students. States said that even though schools were 'separate' they were still 'equal'. But they were not equal. |
