Unfortunately and obviously, racism is not extinct. However, in many people's minds, hearts, and communities in this country and world, it has greatly lessened.
Racism first came about in this country when black African slaves were kidnapped and brought to America. They were traded and sold like animals, and in order to help people feel comfortable with the idea of owning other humans- African slaves were treated and talked to just like animals.
A horrific aspect of our nation's history, the ideals and attitudes from the days of slavery still exist in many people's minds, and overcoming those ideals is an incredibly important part of accepting others and treating all people justly and fairly, as we all want to be treated.
