Close your eyes and think of somebody who is really influential in your life and/or who matters to you. Why is this person so important? Pose this question to your students and have them write a response. Ask them, after about 5 minutes, to share their responses in their squads. Then, show the video to the right. |

Create a gratitude banner...Helping students reflect on their gifts is an incredibly important exercise. Have students create individual gratitude banners to begin this process. In the shape of pennants- or whatever will make them proud, ask students to respond to these prompts by creating a mosaic on their pennant. String them together to create a class thankfulness banner. Your talents, family, freedoms, health, education, foods, vacations, presents, belongings, transportation, comforts (running water, etc.), sports, entertainment, and so much more! Or- consider creating a class list of what you are thankful for, and add to the poster every single day. Challenge each student- really push them, to think of two things every day that they are thankful for they can add to the poster. |
